One of the real joys of this moment is the opportunity to wish everyone the very best for the New Year 2021. 2020 will be a year seared in all our memories as the Covid-19 pandemic has brought so many changes and challenges to our lives. On behalf of Universitas Diponegoro, we are thankful for the support and the rewarding experience shared with our faculty staffs and students even in this unfavorable condition. 2020 Undip’s Academic Collaboration Program
Universitas Diponegoro (Undip) intends to expand the academic collaboration with international academics and practitioners. This program is set to improve the quality of education and learning process as well as providing an international perspective and different experience for the students. In addition this academic collaboration is aims to improve quality of publication and research network for researchers. The collaboration offered many activities such as visiting professors, visiting lecturers, joint supervision, thesis examiners, joint research, joint publications, and keynote speakers for international conferences. Undip Ranked 2nd at National UI GreenMetric University Ranking
Universitas Diponegoro has constantly committed to support all activities related to the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the internally and externally. This year, Undip’s efforts was recognized in the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking as Undip ranked 39th in the world and 2nd best in Indonesia. Focusing on the goal of “Green Campus and Sustainability in Universities”, UI GreenMetric World University Ranking system is expected to increase the concern of all parties in the ranks of institutions to pay more attention to global climate change, energy and water conservation, waste recycling, and green transportation. About 912 universities from 84 countries were included in the assessment.
International Tropical Summer Course (ITroSCo) 2020
Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences organized an International Tropical Summer Course (ITroSCo) 2020. This activity is an effort to increase the number of foreign students in FPIK that provides opportunities for partner university students abroad to learn about coastal environment conservation and get to know tropical coastal/marine biota in Semarang and in Karimunjawa islands. It also aimed to promote the traditional culture of Indonesia. This year the summer course were conducted online due to COVID-19 pandemic.
International Conference on Tropical and Coastal Region Eco Development 2020
The Center for Disaster Mitigation and Coastal Rehabilitation (PKMBRP/ CoREM in collaboration with the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences of Diponegoro University hosted the 6th ICTCRED themed “Sustainable Development in Coastal Area” on October 27-28, 2020 online via zoom meeting. This international seminar is an annual event that aims to promote and disseminate scientific findings within the scope of Ecological Development of Tropical and Coastal Areas. This seminar also supports Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) especially SDGs number 13 (climate action), number 14 (life bellow water),and number 17 (partnerships for the goals).
This seminar was opened directly by the Rector of Universitas Diponegoro Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, S.H., M.Hum. Ten keynote speakers from 7 countries were invited, Dwi Susanto, Ph.D from the University of Maryland with expertise of atmospheric and marine science, Naoki Itoh, Ph.D from University of Tokyo with expertise in infectious diseases of mollusks, Dr. Ir. Slamet Budi Prayitno, M.Sc from UNDIP expert in aquaculture, Prof Lee Chun Woo from Pukyong National University expert in fisheries systems, Dr. Irwandi Jaswir from International Islamic University with expertise in Food Chemistry and Biochemistry, Prof Karen Diele from Edinburgh Napier University expert in marine ecology, Prof Hwa Chien from National Central University, with field of oceanographic expertise, Prof Magaly Koch from Boston University with expertise in geology and hydrology of dry land, Prof Elena N. Naumova from Tufts University with expertise in Infectious Disease Forecasting and Modeling (InForMID), and Sucharita Gopal from Boston University with expertise in GIS Spatial Analysis, Modelling and Spatial Statistics.
International Conference on Food Security Post Pandemic
COVID-19 has brought many changes and impacts in many fields, including the agricultural sector. Many countries experiencing food crisis due to the condition as it affect workforces, transportation systems, and supply chains. It is undeniable problems that needs to be solved. Based on that the Faculty of Animal and Agriculture Universitas Diponegoro initiated the Virtual International Conference entitled “Reframing Food Sovereignty After COVID-19”. The webinar discussed about how the food security around the world after the pandemic which were closely related to the objectives of SDS’s, namely SDGs 2, 3, 7 and 15. The webinar was held on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 starting from 08.30 to 16.30. The event draws almost 500 participants from all regions in Indonesia, even from Turkey. All participants were able to gain new perspectives of the conditions and solutions of food security presented by 4 speakers from Australia, Thailand, Philippines, and Indonesia.
The Dean of Faculty of Animal and Agriculture stated that it is a joint effort of multi stakeholders to redefine what food security means after the pandemic that will take big step of guarantee food security by the government, farmers, consumers, activists, and the private sector. Upstream to downstream companies must also take a joint work, ranging from the provision of inputs, production, post-harvest, to marketing. The all speakers suggested that pandemic has changed many things related to food like the tastes and lifestyles of consumers, distribution of livestock products, and the fruit that is consumed. These changes becomes an opportunity to increase farmers’ awareness and an opportunity to create production policy, marketing, post-harvest, to local consumption efforts. At the end of the event, Dr. Siwi Gayatri as the chairman of the organizers said that all these thoughts will be achieved when there are cooperation from various disciplines, both natural and social sciences.
The 4th FPP Summer Course Attracted Extraordinary Attention
The 4th summer course organized by Faculty of Animal and Agriculture (FPP) received extraordinary attention from
foreign students. As many as 94 students from from the United States, Philippines, China, Taiwan, Thailand, Rwanda,
and Nigeria were interested in participating summer course that was held 10-19 August 2020. This year’s summer course were conducted online in which participants,instructors, and organizers design activities in the virtual
sphere. During the 2 weeks of the event, participants learned about Indonesian culture, ranging from language,
food, culture, tourism, to its history. Particularly, the participants were introduced to the existing agricultural and
livestock systems in Indonesia
