“The New Normal” Living during the pandemic

Following, the continued developments around COVID-19 outbreak, in March Universitas Diponegoro (Undip) has started to apply remote education and work from home for all of the elements until further communication. The education is switch into online mode through several application such as MS Teams, Kulon and others. The administration works are also conducted remotely. The new way of daily routine is out of our comfort zone, our “new normal”. There is no choice other than living coexist with the virus. But one fact that is true, this outbreak gives a lot of lesson to learn and introduced us the new way of living. Please stay safe and stay productive!

2020 Undip’s Academic Collaboration Program


Universitas Diponegoro (Undip) intends to expand the academic collaboration with international academics and practitioners.  This program is set to improve the quality of education and learning process as well as providing an international perspective and different experience for the students. In addition this academic collaboration is aims to improve quality of publication and research network for researchers. The collaboration offered many activities such as visiting professors, visiting lecturers, joint supervision, thesis examiners, joint research, joint publications, and keynote speakers for international conferences. WEBINAR Undip SDG’s Series 2020 Serie_2: 1st SDGs_No Poverty Economic Resilience Strategies during COVID-19

WEBINAR Undip SDGs Series 2020 was held for the second time by discussing “Economic Resilience Strategy in the Covid-19 Pandemic Period” on 2nd week of May 2020 live via Zoom and YouTube. The webinar is a scientific seminar with speakers and respective expertise discussing ideas and solutions for the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals. This event invited Prof. Muliaman Darmansyah Hadad, SE., MPA, Ph.D. the Indonesian Ambassador for Switzerland; Prof. Mohammad Nasir, Ph.D.

who serves as an Independent Commissioner of Bank Mandiri; Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, SE., M.Si Dean of Faculty of Economics and Business Undip; Dr. Eny Sri Hartati from the Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (INDEF); and Dr. Bayu Taufiq Possumah, MA from Universiti Malaysia Terengganu.

The event was opened by Undip Rector Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, SH., M.Hum. and moderator Dwi Cahyo Utomo, SE., MA., Ph.D. as vice Rector of Communication and Business Undip. In his speech Rector Undip stated that he was looking forward to this webinar because it would specifically discuss the important points of efforts that need to be made to survive economically amid the COVID-19 Pandemic. Discussion on this topic was highly awaited by the industrial players and also of course the wider community. It is also closely related to the implementation of the first goal or SDG’s goals namely *no poverty* on how to resolve or overcome the poverty impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Prof. Muliaman delivered the latest data on the state of the global economy and underlined that global policy must be balanced with the aim of continuing to prioritize public health and minimize the impact of the pandemic on the community’s economy. Prof. Nasir stated that the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic was massive, and the government had made several scenarios to minimize the impact. There are four sectors currently under the supervision of the government, namely health, social, economic and financial. Prof. Suharnomo gave several important points related to the certainty of a blueprint for handling the economy and security issues that should not be ignored and need an approach that is more comprehensive from various fields to overcome the impact of a pandemic in the community. Dr. Eny Sri Hartati stated that the Indonesian economy was dominated by household consumption with a high profile of workers in the informal sector (55%). This caused the economic impact of the pandemic to be extraordinary, especially the purchasing power which declined drastically. Meanwhile, Dr. Bayu Taufiq provides an overview of the strategic steps taken by the Malaysian Government such as focusing on reducing the number of positive COVID-19 figures with policies integrated with the Ministry of Health’s leading sector. The economic policies adopted are a sizable economic stimulus of 250 billion Ringgit with an allocation of 55% for household income; 44% of MSMEs; 1% for others.


Alumni Assistance for Students During The COVID-19 Pandemic

Faculty of Humanities (FIB) Undip join hands with the Faculty of Humanity Alumni Organization (IKA FIB UNDIP) to provide assistance for the students who are affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The delivery of assistance from IKA FIB Undip central board to students was also witnessed by Undip Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs Prof. Budi Setiyono, Dean of FIB Dr. Nurhayati, Director of Alumni Affairs Dr. Mujid F Amin, along with the academic community. IKA FIB Chairperson Agustina Wilujeng, S.S who are also a Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Commission X thanked the alumni who participated in this event.

Faculty of Social Science and Politics will hold its 5th  International Conference on Indonesian Social and Political Enquires (ICISPE) on 9-10 September 2020 themed Shaping the future: Empowering Indonesian Human Resource for Better Quality and Competitiveness.

Planned to be keynote speakers are Erick Thohir, BA, MBA* Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, Indonesia (still under confirmation) and John Burgess, MA, MEc, Ph.D, RMIT University, Australia. Other speakers who will also deliver their speeches are Prof. Budi Setiyono, M.Pol.Admin., Ph.D Universitas Diponegoro, Indonesia, Prof. Leonard C. Sebastian NTU, Singapore, Prof. Day-Yang Liu, NTUST, Taiwan and Prof. Ward Berenschot, University of Amsterdam, Netherlands

Webinar of Child Protection Against Sexual Exploitation in “Nikah Siri” (Unofficial Marriage)

The Pancasila Ideology Development Board through the Deputy Director of Advocacy in the Field of Law, Advocacy and Regulation Oversight in cooperation with the Faculty of Law of Universitas Diponegoro and the Association of Teachers and Enthusiasts of Gender Perspective Law in Indonesia has successfully held a National Webinar and Panel Discussion with the Theme of Child Protection Against Sexual Exploitation in “Nikah Siri” (Unofficial Marriage) via Zoom platform and YouTube live streaming.

The speaker includes Dr. Susanto, MA (Chair of KPAI), Prof. Dr. Pujiyono, SH, M.Hum (FH UNDIP’s Criminal Law Lecturer), Dr. Ani Purwanti, SH, M.Hum (Acting Deputy for Legal Affairs, Advocacy and Regulatory Oversight of BPIP), Muhyidin, S.Ag, MH (Islamic Law FH UNDIP Lecturer), Dr. Kunthi Tridewiyanti, SH, MH (Academician and Former Commissioner for the National Commission on Women), Dra. Retno Sudewi, Apt, M.Si, MM and AKP Puji Hari (Central Java Police Personnel) moderated by Dr. Nur Rochaeti, SH, M.Hum (FH UNDIP Criminology Lecturer).

The webinar discuss about many aspects of Siri Marriage such as the relevancy of Pancasila, the fact that an exploitation of children through Siri marriage does occur with the aims mostly for sexual satisfaction, the purpose of Islamic marriage that rights and obligations of underage marriages will not be fulfilled, the minimum impact of legal consequences on the perpetrators, paradigm shift in the thinking of judges in judging, which must be oriented towards the protection of children, Central Java Government policy on prevention of violence against women and children and the participation and awareness of the public and mass media related to the treatment of children.

Vulnerability to Viability (V2V): Global Partnership for Building Strong Small-Scale Fisheries Communities

Universitas Diponegoro become one of the international partners for Vulnerability to Viability (V2V): Global Partnership for Building Strong Small-Scale Fisheries Communities funded by The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), Canada. SSHRC is governed by a council appointed by the federal government to represent the interests of the academic, public and private sectors.

The project leaders Prof. Dra. Indah Susilowati, M.Sc., Ph.D. and Prof. Dr. Denny Nugroho Sugianto, S.T., M.Si. stated that the aim of the project is reduce vulnerability and to build viability of the small-scale fisheries. In order to achieve the goals the knowledge about the livelihoods, economy, food security, values and identity, and the viability of small-scale fisheries communities needs to be collected. The works on this project will contribute to the sustainable development goals 11, 13, 14, 17 which are SUSTAINABLE CITIES AND COMMUNITIES, there needs to be a future in which cities provide opportunities for all, with access to basic services, energy, housing, transportation and more; CLIMATE ACTION, climate change is a global challenge that affects everyone, everywhere; LIFE BELOW WATER, careful management of this essential global resource is a key feature of a sustainable future; and PARTNERSHIPS, revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development respectively.
